Some trees are unusual because of what they are. In Utah there is a formation called Pando or the Trembling Giant, which appears to be a thicket of separate trees. In truth this is one tree with many stems and sharing a single root system. It is estimated to weigh 6,600 tons.
Others have been made unusual by human hands. In the 1940′s a gentleman named Axel Erlandson made elaborate tree sculptures shaped like ladders, lattices and other fantastic things. Many of these trees are still alive today.
The Chapel-Oak in France is an ancient tree with a religious chapel built into it. Because of its strange appearance and religious significance, it is the most famous tree in France.
The Sri Maha Bodhi Tree in Sri Lanka has both unusual appearance and sacred significance. It was supposedly grown from a cutting of the original tree under which Buddha acheived Enlightment.
